Sheldon ‘Sword’ Cannonier gunned down on Sunday

The murder rate in the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis continue to soar. The latest recorded murder is that of Sheldon ‘Sword’ Cannonier of Neverson Street, Newtown, Bassesterre,
St. Kitts.

Cannonier was gunned down on Sunday, June 2, 2013. Reports indicate that the act occurred as he walked towards the island’s main road accompanied by his girl friend and child, moments after leaving the Rivers of Living Water Christian Centre at Lime Kiln Village, St. Kitts.

Cannioner was charged in 2004 with the murder of Akeel Brookes but was released from prison two years later when it was determined by the Court that there was insufficient evidence against him to sustain the charge of murder.

Five years later in 2009, Cannonier was acquitted at the High Court, Basseterre on charges stemming from the shooting of Glen Thomas. At the trial, the jury had determined that the Prosecution had failed to prove its case against Cannonier.

Cannonier was scheduled to appear at the Basseterre High Court during the current criminal assizes at the Lee Llewellyn Moore Judical Complex. He faced charges on assault with intent to commit a felony.

That matter was traversed from the March Assizes. During the March assizes, the matter had ended with a hung jury.

It has also been reported that Cannonier had survived a stabbing during the time he was an inmate at Her Majesty Prison, St. Kitts.
