St Thomas’ Primary School celebrates Interprimary win

By Monique Washington

The students at the St. Thomas’ Primary School (STPS) had a day of celebration today, May 5, 2017. This was to commemorate the winning of the 2017 Gulf Insurance Inter Primary School Champions on April 5, 2017.

The school won the championship for the third consecutive year. This year the School team of 45 atlethes beat their closest competitor, the Joycelyn Liburd Primary School, by 30 points.

To mark this celebration, a swimming pool with a slide, along with a bouncing castle was setup on the school grounds for the entire day. Over 170 students showed up in their swimming gear.  Lunch was supplied with a wide array of dishes including pizzas, chicken, sandwich etc.

Head Coach at the school, Mr. Eddie Caines said that STPS has closed down the ETW Park by winning the last Interprimary Championships at the park.  He is looking forward “to being the first school with our names across the Mondo track when we win next year”.

Caines thanked Miss Charles, Althea Simon Liburd, Shonroy Caesar Dominic Hinds, Natasha Isles, Duggins Stapleton, Miles Walters, the St Thomas’ community and the staff at the school and all who would have helped with training and motivating the athletes.

The Inter Primary School Champions meet that was  held at the Elquemedo T Willet Park in April was the last one to be held at that venue. From 2018, the meet will be held at the new Mondo Park at Long Point.
