The Way I See It

By:Curtis Morton
The way I see it, Marriage is an honourable institution which was put in place by God himself from way back when in the Garden of Eden.
The Genesis account gives vivid details about that first wedding
Genesis 2: 22:

And the rib, which the LORD God had taken from man, made he a woman, and brought her unto the man.

Adam was so elated that in giving his big speech on behalf of ‘my wife and I’, he said “this is now bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh…..”
23: And Adam said, this is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man.
So definitely the humorous account given by Ras Shorty in one of his popular Calypsoes, is erroneous as he stated:
“The word woman came from an expression
That was used by our forefather Adam
When he saw Eve in the Garden of Eden
He say Oh Lord-Woe be unto MAN!”
Well I newa!
So the bible puts to nought that theory.

Another important institution that was put in place by God in the Garden of Eden, was the observance of the SABBATH.
Genesis 2:3
And God blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it: because that in it he had rested from all his work which God created and made.
However, just to prove how critical these two institutions are to man’s very existence, the devil has gone after both of them with a vengeance.
So, whereas marriage was really intended to end in the manner of the popular fairy tales: ‘and they lived happily ever after,’ Satan endeavours every single day to make a mockery of marriage and encourage people to be unfaithful to each other; create strife over even the pettiest of things like how the toothpaste is squeezed and who did not put the toilet seat back down and all such similar ‘irreconcilable differences.’
So instead of a joyous and happy union here on earth, marriages, if out of control and out of context, could really result in a literal ‘hell on earth.’
Look at this true story that occurred recently in the USA:
“A Kansas man robbed a bank last week in order to go to jail and avoid his wife, court documents showed.
Lawrence John Ripple, 70, told his wife following a fight on Friday that “he’d rather be in jail than at home.”
After writing a note stating that he had a gun and wanted money, Ripple walked to a bank in Kansas City, Kansas, and handed it to the teller.
The teller gave him nearly $3,000. Instead of making a hasty getaway from the Brotherhood Bank and Trust branch, Ripple took a seat in the lobby and admitted to a security guard that he was the suspect. He was taken into custody.
The money was returned to the bank. The cause of Ripple’s fight with his wife was not detailed in the court documents and no lawyer was listed for him.
Ripple was no longer at the Wyandotte County Detention Center in Kansas City, Kansas, on Wednesday, according to the center’s website. A spokesman for the Wyandotte County Sheriff’s office said he was moved to a federal facility in Leavenworth, Kansas. Efforts to reach Ripple’s wife were not immediately successful.”
Well I newa!
She must have been one mean wife or the man’s head is just not good!
By the way, the bible admonishes: “It is better to dwell in a corner of the housetop, than with a brawling woman in a wide house.” (Proverbs 21: 9)

However, just like the Sabbath day, marriage was also meant to be a lasting affair but just as Satan has come up with duplications for Marriage, so too, he has come up with duplications as regards the observance of the Sabbath day. But that’s a whole other topic, for another time……
God has prepared a fiery end for Satan and his fallen angels but Satan is tempting us daily because he wants us to die in our sins so that we can be a part of that fiery ending to our existence.
It means therefore, for those of us who are married, we have got to learn to love, respect and cherish our partners. None of us is perfect and we are going to mess up ever so often.
However, just as God is willing to forgive us over and over again, we need to learn to forgive our partner, even more than the mentioned ‘seventy times seven.’
In that way, we will have less divorces; fewer murders and a decrease in mentally deranged souls.
That’s the way I see it. How do you see it?
