NEVIS DRAWS HISTORIC TEN IN TWENTY-FIVE MOST REMARKABLE TEENS

Charlestown-Nevis-The revelation of the twenty-five most remarkable teens for 2016, will be made sometime during the month of November.

Senior Youth Officer in the Youth and Sports Department on Nevis, Miss Kerdis Clarke, made the revelation during an interview on Wednesday with Senior Communications Office in the Ministry of Social Development, Mr. Curtis Morton.

She noted that the idea of celebrating the twenty- five most remarkable teens, in any given year, originated with the Department of Youth in St.Kitts and they later invited the Youth and Sports Department of Nevis, to be a part of the prestigious event.

The process of selection includes the nomination of youths between the ages of 12 and 19, by certain individuals within the community, which include Teachers, coaches and other professionals, who would have been overly impressed with the general demeanour, attitude and accomplishments of young persons and especially in the areas of writing; courage to overcome; the performing arts; leadership; visual arts; civic involvement; athletics; dance and spiritual commitment.

The next step is the interview process, which involves the nominees being interviewed by a panel of individuals.

Following the interview process, the final selection of the twenty-five most remarkable teens is made.

Miss Clarke made the revelation, that as a historic first, this year Nevis has secured ten spots in the twenty-five teens chosen throughout the federation.

The previous highest count from Nevis, was six individuals.

Interestingly, she noted that of the ten teens selected for the prestigious honour, no fewer than nine are males. She lauded the males for making such a bold and positive statement this year.

Curtis Morton then opined that maybe the time is right for another historic first, as he proposed that the ceremony be held at the National Assembly Chambers in Charlestown, for the first time, instead of the usual House of Assembly Chambers in Basseterre.

Miss Clarke indicated that she will pass on the suggestion to her superiors.

The revelation of the names of the twenty-five top teens will not be made until the night of the grand event, when they will be lauded via profiles read by the previous year’s winners and by members of the St.Kitts –Nevis parliament.
