Nevispages understands that about 3:00 p.m. the accident occurred along the Bath Plain road and claimed the life of a young man identified as Vern ‘Shoulda’ Powell of Matchman’s Village, Gingerland.

Investigations reveal that Powell was driving a blue Altezza P2621 heading from the direction of Gingerland and heading towards the Bath Plain road when he lost control of the vehicle.

It is alleged that the vehicle flipped numerous times while going over the hill. It then hit a lamp post in the process, bringing it down. The vehicle then ended up on an empty piece of land in close proximity to the Nevis Academy School.

After news began to circulate many persons gathered at the area with hopes that he may still be alive. It was only after District Medical Officer, Dr. Chandy Jacobs arrived on the scene at about 4:05 p.m. the hopes of many curious onlookers were dashed.

Nevispages understands that the father of the deceased was taken from the scene and rushed to the Alexandra Hospital by the ambulance.

Powell is said to be 25 years old and was employed at the Government Information Service (GIS)) at the time of his demise.
