Jamaica – Minister of Education, Youth and Sports, the Honourable Troy Liburd, accompanied by Director of Sports, Mr Aljay Newton, recently visited promising Nevisian athletes Shamarie Newton and Chesson Liburd, who are currently training in Jamaica with the prestigious Racers Track Club, led by renowned coach Glen Mills.
The visit formed part of the Nevis Island Administration’s ongoing commitment to supporting the development of young athletes and fostering sporting excellence. Minister Liburd and Director Newton took the opportunity to meet with the athletes, assess their progress, and offer encouragement as they continue their high-performance training programme.
Both athletes recently participated in the JAAA/PUMA Meet #4, where they gained valuable competitive experience while continuing to sharpen their skills against some of the region’s top track and field talent.
Minister Liburd commended the athletes for their dedication and commitment to excellence, noting that their willingness to pursue opportunities for growth reflects the determination and resilience required to succeed at the highest levels of sport.
“Investing in our youth remains a priority, and we are proud to support talented young athletes such as Shamarie and Chesson as they pursue their goals. Their hard work and discipline are setting a positive example for other young people across Nevis and the Federation,” Minister Liburd said.
Director Newton also praised the athletes for embracing the opportunity to train in a world-class environment and encouraged them to continue striving for excellence both on and off the track.
The Nevis Island Administration remains committed to creating opportunities for young people to develop their talents, achieve their potential, and proudly represent Nevis and St. Kitts and Nevis on the regional and international stage.
