BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS – To increase local production and build a more resilient agricultural sector, scores of coconut seedlings were distributed to farmers across St. Kitts during a ceremony held at the Department’s La Guerite Office.
This initiative was made possible through the valued support of the Caribbean Agricultural Research and Development Institute (CARDI), which seeks to strengthen efforts to promote sustainable agricultural development and expand coconut production in the Federation.
The ceremony featured presentations from Director of Agriculture, Stuart Versailles, and CARDI Representative to the Minister, Ms Brontie Tucker, CR, who highlighted the importance of strengthening local agricultural capacity and supporting farmers.
Following the distribution ceremony, farmers participated in a coconut seedling training session designed to build practical capacity in coconut propagation, agronomy, and pest and disease management.
