GEORGETOWN, Guyana (CMC):

The West Indies Masters team secured their first win of the 2026 IMC Masters Over-40s World Cup in emphatic fashion, crushing Namibia by eight wickets at the Police Sports Club Ground yesterday.

After a shaky start to the tournament, the hosts delivered a commanding all-round performance, needing just 12.2 overs to chase down a modest target of 144.

The platform for victory was laid by the West Indies bowlers. Chris Mittelholzer (3-34) and Imran Khan (3-48) ripped through the Namibian top and middle order, while Trevor Benn and Devendra Bishoo provided excellent support with two wickets each.

Namibia never managed to build any momentum and were dismissed for 143 in 31.3 overs.

Any concerns about a potentially tricky chase were quickly erased by Sewnarine Chattergoon, who unleashed a breathtaking display of power hitting.

Chattergoon blasted 57 off just 28 balls to set the tone for a fierce West Indies response. He received valuable support from Jason Mohammed, who hammered an unbeaten 43 from only 18 deliveries.

Randy Thomas contributed a composed 29, while captain Denesh Ramdin finished unbeaten on 15 to guide the hosts home.

The West Indies powered to 146-2, overwhelming the Namibian attack to secure their first victory of the campaign in commanding fashion.

Elsewhere, South Africa’s Robert Mutch produced a bowling masterclass, claiming an astonishing 8-10 to propel his team to an eight-wicket victory over Colombia.

England also had a standout performer, with Ben Frazer smashing an unbeaten 119 to steer his side to a seven-wicket win against Pakistan.

India completed the day’s results with an eight-wicket victory over New Zealand.
