NEVIS, October 26, 2026 — The Nevis Disaster Management Department (NDMD) has successfully completed a three-day Shelters and Shelter Management (SSM) Hand-Off Instructor Training, held on October 19, 22, and 23, 2026, at the Emergency Operations Centre (EOC).

The training was designed to orient and prepare new instructors to deliver the core content of the official Shelters and Shelter Management manual. This initiative represents an important step in strengthening Nevis’ disaster preparedness and response capabilities by expanding the pool of qualified local facilitators equipped to deliver essential shelter management training.

The workshop was facilitated by McMillan Cuffy, Mental Health Counselor and Supervisor at the Behavioral Health and Wellness Centre, and Livingston Pemberton, National Disaster Coordinator at the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA). Their combined expertise and guidance supported participants in preparing to deliver the SSM training within their respective agencies and communities.

Participants represented the Ministry of Health, the Nevis Disaster Management Department, the St. Kitts and Nevis Fire and Rescue Services, and Disaster Management Volunteers.

The NDMD congratulates all participants on completing the training and welcomes the addition of new instructors to the Local Facilitator Pool. This strengthened capacity will support continued knowledge-sharing, improve shelter management practices, and contribute to a more coordinated and effective disaster response across Nevis.
