IPOSKN and WIPO Partner to Explore Intellectual Property Protection for Locally Made and Grown Products

BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS — The Intellectual Property Office of St. Kitts and Nevis (IPOSKN), in collaboration with the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO), will host a two-day national workshop titled “Protecting Authentic St. Kitts and Nevis Products” on November 9 and 10, 2026. The workshop will bring together stakeholders to explore how intellectual property (IP) protection can safeguard the Federation’s distinctive products, cultural traditions, and natural resources while creating new opportunities for local producers and entrepreneurs.

The initiative seeks to encourage greater awareness of the role intellectual property can play in preserving the authenticity and reputation of products rooted in the traditions, plants, and materials of St. Kitts and Nevis. It will also provide a platform for dialogue on how local producers, farmers, artisans, manufacturers, and other stakeholders can better protect the value of what they make and grow.

From agricultural produce and traditional goods to locally crafted products and beverages, the Federation’s distinctive offerings reflect its cultural heritage, natural environment, and entrepreneurial spirit. Protecting these products can help preserve their identity, strengthen consumer confidence, support local livelihoods, and enhance their potential in domestic and international markets.

The workshop will explore how the intellectual property framework can be used to identify and protect authentic local products. Discussions will focus on the opportunities available to producers and communities, as well as the importance of collective participation in developing approaches that reflect the Federation’s unique heritage and economic priorities.

The two-day event will take place at the following locations:

Monday, November 9, 2026: Ministry of Agriculture Conference Room, La Guerite, St. Kitts.

Tuesday, November 10, 2026: Nevis Disaster Management Agency Conference Room, Long Point, Nevis.

Sessions will run from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. daily.

IPOSKN is encouraging farmers, manufacturers, food processors, artisans, entrepreneurs, and all individuals and businesses involved in producing or growing local products to participate in the workshop.

The initiative represents an important opportunity for stakeholders to contribute to a national conversation about safeguarding the Federation’s distinctive products and ensuring that the communities and businesses responsible for creating them can benefit from their value.

Registration is required, and interested participants are encouraged to register online at https://forms.cloud.microsoft/r/Kia0m48zJF. Registrations must be completed by Thursday, November 5, 2026.

Through this collaboration, IPOSKN and WIPO aim to strengthen understanding of intellectual property as a practical tool for protecting the Federation’s heritage, supporting local enterprise, and building a more sustainable future for authentic St. Kitts and Nevis products.
