West Indies Under-19 delivered a commanding all-round performance to defeat South Africa, defending a formidable total of 234 by bowling out their opponents for 179 inside 39 overs in a high-profile clash at the ICC U19 Cricket World Cup 2026.
The victory was headlined by a devastating spell from Shaquan Belle, who ripped through the South African batting lineup with figures of 6 for 40 from his 10 overs. Belle’s relentless accuracy and movement proved irresistible, earning him widespread acclaim for one of the standout bowling performances of the tournament so far.
Belle received strong support from his fellow bowlers, as the West Indies attack operated with discipline and cohesion. Jakeem Pollard chipped in with 1 for 19, Isra-El Morton claimed 1 for 27, and Vitel Lawes picked up 1 for 60, ensuring consistent pressure throughout the innings.
Reflecting on the performance, Pollard praised the collective effort of the bowling unit.
“It was a good bowling performance from the boys, and what made it special was that we bowled in partnerships,” he said. “It’s great to be part of that bowling attack, especially since I grew up with Shaquan.”
Earlier, West Indies had laid the foundation for victory through a superb batting display by Zachary Carter, who carried the innings with a magnificent 114 off 104 balls. Carter’s knock, which featured eight fours and eight sixes, anchored the innings and propelled the team to a competitive total that ultimately proved beyond South Africa’s reach.
Carter’s century served as a timely reminder to the remaining Super Six teams that the West Indies squad is packed with match-winners capable of delivering on the big stage.
“This is my first time playing in the World Cup, and it feels very good to represent not only Barbados, but the whole Caribbean,” Carter said.
With momentum firmly on their side, the West Indies now turn their attention to the Super Six stage, where their quest for a semi-final berth begins with a clash against Ireland in Windhoek on Sunday.
