Cricket : Guyana Harpy Eagles and Trinbago Red Force to Meet in Regional Four-Day Final

ANTIGUA — Guyana Harpy Eagles and Trinbago Red Force have secured their places in the grand final of the regional four-day championship following impressive performances in the final round of preliminary matches, which concluded on Wednesday, May 13.

At the Antigua Recreation Ground in St. John’s, the Guyana Harpy Eagles overcame an early challenge from the West Indies Academy to record a dominant innings and 21-run victory in their warm-up encounter.

After the West Indies Academy posted a formidable first innings total of 485, Guyana responded strongly with 685 runs, highlighted by an outstanding 237 from Matthew Nandu and a solid 133 from Van Lange. Motara led the Academy bowling effort with impressive figures of 6 for 202.

The West Indies Academy, batting a second time, were then dismissed for 158, with Richie Looknauth producing an excellent spell to claim 6 wickets for 36 runs.

Meanwhile, in the playoff match to determine the second finalist, Trinbago Red Force defeated Barbados Pride by 140 runs in a competitive contest at the Coolidge Cricket Ground.

Trinbago Red Force posted 333 in their first innings before restricting Barbados Pride to 298. The Red Force then added 280 in their second innings to set Barbados a challenging victory target of 316.

In response, Barbados Pride were bowled out for 177, as Khary Pierre starred with the ball, taking 5 wickets for 54 runs, while Bryan Charles supported well with figures of 4 for 62.

The regional four-day championship final between Guyana Harpy Eagles and Trinbago Red Force is scheduled to begin on Sunday, May 17, at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in Antigua.
