LUCKNOW, India – West Indies Women’s captain Hayley Matthews produced a match-winning performance to put the Mumbai Indians Women in prime position to qualify for the playoffs in the Women’s Premier League (WPL).
Matthews took two wickets and then scored a half-century to lead the Mumbai Indians Women to a six-wicket victory over the UP Warriorz Women at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium here Thursday.
After being sent into bat, the UP Warriorz have held to 150 for nine from their 20 overs thanks to Amelia Kerr’s five-wicket haul.
Kerr initiated a middle-order collapse that saw the UP Warriorz slip from 84 for one in the 10th over to 125 for seven at the end of the 16th over.
Kerr ended with 5-38, while Matthews provided good support with 2-26.
Georgia Voll top-scored for the Warriorz with 55 from 33 balls. Chinelle Henry made just six from two balls.
Matthews then returned to blast 68 from 46 balls at the top of the order as the Mumbai Indians coasted to 153 for four off 18.3 overs.
With the victory, the Mumbai Indians rose to second position in the standings with eight points, two behind the Dubai Capitals Women who have played one game more, while the Warriorz remained rooted to the bottom of the five-team table on four points.
