Guyana Edge St. Martin on Penalties to Reach Tier II Final

Guyana 2 (3) – 2 (2) St. Martin

Guyana secured their place in the Tier II final after prevailing 3-2 in a dramatic penalty shootout against St. Martin following a 2-2 draw.

St. Martin made a bright start, putting the Guyana defense under early pressure, with Laureindo Dormoy repeatedly finding space behind the back line.

Dormoy opened the scoring in the 18th minute, using his pace to beat the Guyana defense before calmly slotting the ball past the advancing goalkeeper to give St. Martin a 1-0 lead.

The advantage could have been doubled just three minutes later when Dormoy again found himself in a dangerous position, but Guyana goalkeeper Royston Junior Winter produced two saves in quick succession to keep his team within touching distance.

Guyana gradually grew into the match and began searching for an equalizer, but St. Martin’s defense remained organized and determined. The referee brought an end to a closely contested first half with St. Martin holding a narrow 1-0 advantage.

Guyana raised the tempo after the restart, and St. Martin goalkeeper Clemenceau Gumbs was called into action in the 40th minute, making a sharp save to keep Guyana off the score sheet.

Colon Peters thought he had found the equalizer two minutes later, but Gumbs again came to St. Martin’s rescue with a close-range save.

Guyana’s pressure finally paid off in the 44th minute when Dane Vancooten nudged the ball over the line following a goalmouth scramble to level the match at 1-1.

The intensity remained high as both teams pushed for the advantage. St. Martin regained the lead in the 56th minute when Nolan Leconte’s corner kick was mishandled by the goalkeeper and crossed the line.

Guyana refused to back down and drew level for a second time in the 62nd minute. Peters took advantage of indecision in the St. Martin defense and volleyed home from close range to make it 2-2.

Neither side could find a decisive third goal in regulation time. St. Martin had a late opportunity to snatch the winner when Dormoy broke past his marker in injury time, but Winter produced a superb kick save to deny him.

The final whistle sent the semifinal to a penalty shootout, where the young Jaguars held their nerve to secure their place in the Tier II final.

Guyana converted through Dontay Knowlessar, Wayshawn Forde and Adiel Hamilton, while Clemenceau Gumbs and Fernando Sainval found the net for St. Martin.

Jamaica Edge Bermuda 1-0 to Reach Tier I Final

Jamaica edged Bermuda 1-0 in a closely contested semifinal to set up the championship matchup against Haiti.

The game was fairly open in the early stages, with both teams looking to establish control. Jamaica soon began to enjoy more possession as they searched for a way through Bermuda’s well-organized defense.

Bermuda goalkeeper Henrik McIntosh had to be quick off his line in the 20th minute to deny Tai-Sean Headley, who had raced onto a long ball over the Bermuda defense.

The Young Reggae Boyz continued to move the ball quickly, forcing Bermuda to chase, but their attacks were repeatedly met by disciplined defending.

The halftime whistle eventually came with both teams locked at 0-0.

Jamaica started the second half on the front foot and did not have to wait long to break the deadlock. In the 37th minute, Headley got on the end of a precise cross from the right and calmly tapped home from close range past substitute goalkeeper Tayte Brown.

Kylan Gayle could have doubled Jamaica’s lead two minutes later but was unable to keep his shot on target. Brown was then called into action, tipping another Jamaican effort onto the crossbar to keep Bermuda within touching distance.

Jamaica continued their relentless pressure in search of a second goal, but wave after wave of attacks was repelled, often through last-ditch Bermudian tackling.
