Despite admitting disappointment following the West Indies’ early exit from the recently concluded ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, Kishore Shallow has revealed that there is no immediate plan to remove head coach Daren Sammy.

The Cricket West Indies president said the current coaching arrangement remains in place, noting that Sammy’s contract extends beyond the tournament.

The West Indies cricket team had been hoping to capture their first T20 World Cup title in 10 years and their third overall, but were eliminated in the Super Eight stage for the second consecutive tournament.

While questions have been raised about Sammy’s future as all-formats head coach, Shallow indicated that a formal decision regarding the coaching role will likely be considered when Sammy’s contract nears its end, which runs through the 2027 ICC Cricket World Cup.

Speaking during an interview on iSports I95.5 FM, Shallow said:

“At this point, Daren has a contract that runs beyond this World Cup. His contract goes up until at least the ODI World Cup. That is the current status.”

Shallow added that the board will conduct a post-tournament review to assess the team’s performance in India and determine what improvements are needed.

“We are continuing to have conversations. As is normal after major tournaments, we will conduct an assessment to determine what went wrong,” Shallow explained.

He acknowledged that the team fell short of its ultimate objective.

“Ultimately, we didn’t go to the World Cup to reach the Super Eights. We went to win the World Cup, and we didn’t achieve that, so we cannot say we are satisfied. I am certainly very disappointed that we didn’t win,” he said.

However, Shallow also pointed to positive signs, noting that the team showed improvement during the tournament.

“We showed progress in several areas. We won five of our seven matches, and most of those victories were convincing. Apart from the match against South Africa, we were competitive throughout,” he said.

Despite describing the campaign as credible, Shallow emphasized that the team must now focus on addressing shortcomings.

“There is work to be done. We will examine the reasons why we didn’t win the tournament and identify areas for improvement going forward,” he added.
