CSS Hammers Cayon High In Semifinals

By Curtis Morton

The Charlestown Secondary school was virtually merciless in their approach as they engaged the Cayon High School in the semifinal encounter of the 2018 edition of the Giant Malt Federation High Schools Cricket championships.

The match was played at the ET Willet Park on Friday 20th April.

CSS batted first and on the back of attractive half centuries by Carlon Tuckett and Shevon Jeffers and well played innings by Amurdin and Clarke the team amassed a healthy 287 in their allotted 35 overs for the loss of 7 wickets.

In response, the Cayon team was reduced to 23 for 5 but Quanieri Phillip hit out lustily towards the end of the innings to bring some semblance of respectability to the total.

West Indies under 19 speedster Kian Pemberton and Malik Wallace, created the early havoc for the Cayon team and the CSS team maintained close knit fields throughout the innings.

Jaden Carmichael also ripped out three wickets in his very first over of left arm leg spin and the ‘fat lady,’ entered the ET Willet Park, very early.

Summarized scores: CSS 287 for 7 in 35 overs:

Carlon Tuckett 66 (7X4’s); Shevon Jeffers 53 (7X4’s); Justin Amurdin 47 (7X4’s) and T-Jari Clarke 39 (7X4’s)

Kasim Archibald 4 for 42; Ronal Williams 2 for 33; Clayton Skeete 1 for 26

Cayon High 67 all out in 17.4 overs: Quanieri Phillip 19 (4X4”s)

Kian Pemberton 3 for 4; Jaden Carmichael 3 for 8; Malik Wallace 2 for 17 and Carlon Tuckett 1 for 11.

CSS winning by all of 220 runs.

CSS will now engage the Washington Archibald High School in the grand finals, on Wednesday 25th April.

The venue is yet to be determined but it will either be played at the Conaree field in St. Kitts or the ET Willet Park in Nevis.
