Devaughn Roland and Genesia Pemberton both named the 2017-2018 Ministry of Tourism Amateur Photographers of the year

On Saturday, March 11, 2017, at Riviera House, Devaughn Roland and Genesia Pemberton were both named the 2017-2018 Ministry of Tourism Amateur Photographers of the year in their respective age groups.

The competition ran from December 07, 2016 to February 28, 2017 and it was divided into two age groups. First, the 16-19 age group was instructed to take a single photo of a place of interest with their mobile phones. The photo was uploaded to the “Monkey Survey Website” and the general public was given the opportunity to vote on their favorite photo. Shelagh James, Communications Officer in the Ministry of Tourism informed Nevispages on Tuesday that five persons entered into this age group.

The second category which was opened to persons 20 years old and above saw five persons competing. Competitors were asked to capture three (3) themes for the competition.  Applicants were to provide three hard copies of 8½ x 11” photographs in three categories; a black and white photo depicting a mountain landscape, creative vision in color, or a historical site in Nevis. All photos were developed at TDC Printing Services.

Judges for this competition were Steven Rose, former executive Photographer for the Kennedy Family, Llewellyn Clarke and Errol Pemberton both local photographers and Sylvester Meade winner of last year’s competition and photographer.

Roland walked away as photographer for the 16-19 age group with a Samsung Tablet and lunch for two courtesy Lime Beach Bar.

Pemberton walked away as a photographer of the year with a Canon Power shot sx420 camera and kit and two tickets for the opening night for the Blues Festival and dinner for two at Gin Trap.

Second place in the 16-19 category was Tarana Kicker who received a mobile phone courtesy FLOW and third place was Lucien York who received lunch for two at Aladdin’s.

Second place for the 20+ category was Robenha Wilkinson who received a safari dive tour for two courtesy of Delisle Walwyn and dinner for two courtesy of Yachtsman’s Grill.

Third place was Romel Gaskin who received dinner for two at Sunshine’s Bar and Grill. Shelagh James informed that the winner’s photo will be displayed at the Vance Amory international airport for one year.
