The Hon. Jermaine Wade on Friday 8th November indicated in an interview with NTV Sports that there is quite ‘a lot bubbling in the pot’ in terms of the continued positive relations between Montserrat and Nevis.

Minister Wade whose ministerial portfolio includes Sports, Youth and Culture, met earlier in the day with his counterpart on Nevis, the Hon Hazel Brandy- Williams who is also in charge of similar portfolios within the Nevis Island Administration.

‘’I don’t want to preempt what was discussed with Minister Brandy,’ he said. ‘At the appropriate time the grand announcement will be made but I tell you this, there are a lot of things bubbling in the pot…all positive,’ he declared.

Minister Wade was visiting Nevis over the weekend along with the Montserrat national.Basketball team. The team arrived by boat and was accommodated at the Fountain Community Center.

According to Mr. Jamir Claxton the Ag. Director of Sports on Nevis, the trip was made possible as he and Minister Wade interacted at various sporting fora held across the Caribbean and included in their many plans was a regular exchange between various teams from the two islands.

He further indicated that after the trip by the Montserrat team is completed, the Nevis Basketball team will do the return leg to Montserrat, this coming weekend.

Minster Wade ventured that based on his discussions with Minister Brandy-Williams, there may well be many similar trips between the two islands which will involve a variety of traditional and nontraditional sports.

He further indicated that the Leeward Islands Basketball tournament is set to be restarted this coming December and noted that his team would be using the warm up games against Nevis as a means of preparing for the tournament.

Mr. Claxton for his part, stated that the possibility of getting a Nevis team to be part of the tournament, is being seriously explored, with the major concern at this time being the unavailability of funds to take care of travel and accommodation costs especially.

The Montserrat and Nevis teams engaged each other over the weekend with Montserrat winning the first game and Nevis bouncing back to win the second game in front of a vociferous crowd, on Saturday night.
