The Alex Stars female Cricket team or the Nurses, have indicated that they will be forwarding a letter of protest, ‘first thing this morning,’ to the Sports Department, after their match versus Rozel’s team ended in controversy on Wednesday night.
The Nevis Sports Department/Development Bank tape ball Cricket League continued on Wednesday 15th January with the crucial encounter between the Alex Stars and Rozel’s team. This match was set to determine the other female finalist to come up against Pennyless All stars females in the grand finals set for Saturday night-18th January.
From all reports, noted WICB umpire and former West indies one day cricketer, Carl Tuckett was the official scorer at the start of the game but sometime after he had to leave and it appears as if the scoring went haywire after that as there was no official scorer to continue the process.
There was some discrepancy as to the final score made by the Alex Stars who batted first and apparently took the field under duress as there was much debate over what the winning target should be.
After some five overs into the Rozel’s team reply, the umpires from all reports eventually called off the match.
The Nevis Sports Department is expected to arrive at an amicable solution to the matter at a meeting scheduled for later today.
The scheduled first match of the evening was not played as the Highlights male team opted out of the tournament.
Meanwhile, tonight is a crucial night in determining the finalists in the men’s category.
In game one, Rawlins Bush Wackers who have been the runaway dark horse in the race will come up against a confident Empire team and in game two, the unpredictable SDA Jets will engage the powerful Pennyless All stars team.
Both games are expected to be absolute thrillers.
The winners will have their final showdown in the grand finals slated for the evening of Saturday 18th January at the ET Willet Park.
