PAM Leader tells Kittitians to “rid this paradise, of this economic and moral parasite”

Basseterre, St. Kitts, 25th June, 2013, (PAM Communications Unit) – In what many are describing as one of his most powerful speeches since he was elected Political Leader of the People’s Action Movement, (PAM), Hon Shawn Richards on Tuesday, 25th June, 2013, called on citizens of St. Kitts and Nevis not to allow the present illegitimate government of Prime Minister Dr. Denzil Douglas to trample upon their democratic and constitutional rights.

“The time has come for all citizens of St. Kitts and Nevis to step forward in defense of their democracy and the rights that are enshrined in our independence constitution.”

“That journey to protect our fundamental constitutional rights begin today but it shall take our ongoing and united effort to preserve and protect those entitlements that were guaranteed by the People’s Action Movement, (PAM), and our nation’s founding fathers, led by our First Prime Minister, Dr. Sir Kennedy Alphonse Simmonds,” said Mr. Richards.

He accused the authorities of collusion, “Unfortunately, there is now a new conspiracy to deny our people, every Kittitian and Nevisian, their Fundamental Rights to Freedom of Expression, Freedom of Association, Freedom of Conscience and Freedom of Assembly.”

The PAM leader continued, “Sadly it is not our old adversaries and colonial oppressors who are attempting to ignore our constitution and stand in the way of democracy and constitutional rule, no… it is our own people who currently illegally occupy the seat of government. It is the Labour Party Government of the illegitimate office holder, Dr. Denzil Douglas, the world’s most notorious dictator. He is the so called 10 man in one who wishes to trample upon our rights. But the Attorney General ought to tell Dr. Douglas that Chapter 1 of our constitution states that the “Constitution is the Supreme Law”.

Richards appealed to Kittitians and Nevisians saying, “Fellow citizens, we will not allow any government, especially this illegal and minority government to intimidate us. The citizens of St. Kitts and Nevis will be protected by the people’s Action Movement and will never allow the people of this country to be intimidated.”

He said, history, especially recent history, teaches us that a man can be a dictator for only so long as the people allow him.

In a staunch rebuke of the Prime Minister, the PAM leader cautioned Denzil Llewellyn Douglas, that his time as a dictator is up. “The music has stopped and you have been left on the dance floor without a chair.”

Richards issued another stern warning to the prime minister, telling him, “The bell is tolling and the eyes of the people are being opened. The people have arrived at that point where they intend to use all constitutional and legal means to rid this paradise, of this economic and moral parasite, called Denzil Douglas.”

Therefore, the time has come for the democratic and constitutional weapons of this country to be formed against this despotic tyrant who continues to misuse our money in one failed venture after another, said Richards.

The press conference was held at the Ocean Terrace Inn at Fortlands and organized by PAM to update citizens on the latest developments within the country and the government’s decision to prevent ordinary law abiding and peaceful citizens to exercise their constitutional rights.
