Shackley Wins Annual Cross Channel Swim
The 17th annual cross channel swim between St. Kitts and Nevis, took place on Sunday 31st March.
Some 133 swimmers in the UNASSISTED category and another 63 in the ASSISTED category, braved the cold water and the channel, in the journey from Oualie Beach in Nevis to the park Hyatt in St. Kitts.
A total of 196 brave souls.
Among the huge crowd gathered at the Oualie beach for the after 8 am start to the race, was the Hon. Eric Evelyn, Minister of Sports, who stated that he was happy to note that there were more local participants than last year.
First in was David Shackley of the USA, in a time of 1 hour; 2 minutes and 35 seconds.
He just managed to pip second placer, Jane Esahkar –Gage, also of the USA, who arrived close behind in 1 hour 3 minutes and 48 seconds.
The overall top results were:

1ST David Shackley-USA- Male -50 to 59-1 hour; 2 minutes and 35 seconds

2nd Jane Esahak-USA-Gage-Female-50 to 59-1 hour 3 minutes and 48 seconds

3rd William Palmer-USA-Male 50 to 59-1 hour 4 minutes and 19 seconds

4th Shawn Paul Breslin-Great Britain-Male 30 to 39-1 hour 5 minutes and 22 seconds

5th David Carry-Great Britain-Male -30 to 39-1 hour 5 minutes and 33 seconds

Other noteworthy results:

70 plus category-Skip Fry came in 69th in 1 hour 34 minutes and 50 seconds

Youth male under 15-St. Kitts-Nevis- Hrishikesh Srinivasan came in 100th-in 1 hour 52 minutes and 42 seconds

Youth female under 15-St. Kitts-Nevis-Evangeline Knerr- came in 114th in 2 hours 9 minutes and 2 seconds

Jimmy Baclet of GLP-male 40 to 49, won in the ASSISTED category in 1 hour 2 minutes and 48 seconds

Mark Krakower of the USA in the 70 plus category was the last man in, in a time of 3 hours 3 minutes and 7 seconds

Chief coordinator of the event, Winston Crooke, thanked everyone who assisted in any way, to make the event such a huge success.
