(CHARLESTOWN NEVIS)- On Saturday, April 16, 2016 the island of Nevis received the devastating news that a young man was shot and killed in the early hours of the morning.
The tragic occurrence took place at Lime Beach Bar located at Pinney’s Beach. The victim was twenty year old Vincie Ferlance, a resident of Bath Village Nevis. It is alleged, that the victim received a gunshot wound and succumbed to his injury whilst on his way to the Alexandra Hospital. Ferlance’s casualty brings the Federation’s amount to ten (10) thus far for 2016.
Since that shooting, the business owner has implemented new security measures to ensure the safety of his patrons. He announced on his Facebook page that all patrons would now be scanned whenever they enter the establishment. He further announced that there would now be one entrance and one exit.
Following that incident, gunshots again rang out in the area of Hamilton Estate on Sunday, April 17, 2016. The event left one person hospitalized.
Both incidents prompted Premier of Nevis, Hon. Vance Amory to issue a statement on the state of violence. He indicated that these senseless acts of violence create tension and fear in the whole community.
The Premier appealed to all who are contemplating such senseless acts of crime and violence, to seek resolve and settle their differences by talking among themselves, and not allow the desire for revenge to compel them to use guns and other weapons to destroy each other.
He also appealed to parents or anyone suspected of being involved in committing any act of violence, to talk seriously with their children and get them to move away from a life of crime and destruction.
He also indicated, that our country cannot deal with further criminal activities and that it must be stopped now. He concluded by appealing to all to join in the crusade to restore our country as a place where peace abounds.
