Basseterre, St. Kitts — The St. Kitts and Nevis Sailing Association (SKNSA) continues to make significant strides in the development of competitive sailing within the Federation, as three national sailors from the Nevis Aquatic and Sailing Centre depart today for Nassau, The Bahamas, to compete in the Bahamas ILCA Open Nationals 2026, along with a pre-event High Performance Sailing Clinic.
Representing St. Kitts and Nevis at the international event are:
Abhijith Srinivasan — ILCA 6
Melroy Henry — ILCA 7
Amadi Byron-Hendrickson — ILCA 7
The team will first participate in the High Performance Clinic from April 4–10, an intensive training programme designed to sharpen technical skills, enhance race strategy, and provide valuable experience competing alongside sailors from across the region. The clinic will be led by internationally recognised coach Eduardo Marques.
Following the training camp, the sailors will compete in the Bahamas ILCA Open Nationals, scheduled for April 11–12 in Nassau. The regatta will feature competition in the ILCA 7, ILCA 6, and ILCA 4 classes and is expected to attract a strong regional fleet.
This opportunity forms part of the Federation’s broader athlete development pathway, as the sailors prepare for upcoming international competitions, including the Youth Sailing World Championships and the Central American and Caribbean Games.
In recent years, the St. Kitts and Nevis Sailing Association has steadily expanded opportunities for youth and high-performance sailors through international competition, structured training, and regional collaboration. The participation of these athletes in the Bahamas represents another important step forward for the sport within the Federation.
The Association also hopes that continued progress will inspire greater support from the national sporting community, private sector partners, and organizations committed to youth development and Olympic sport in St. Kitts and Nevis.
The St. Kitts and Nevis Sailing Association, along with its President, Nicholas Dupre, extends best wishes to the team for fair winds and great success as they proudly represent the Federation in the Bahamas.
