Digicel NBA Jumpstart Clinics move on Antigua and Barbuda and Jamaica
Monday, 12th September 2016 – Kingston, Jamaica: The Digicel Jumpstart Clinics were a big hit in Barbados and the Turks and Caicos Islands leaving the coaches impressed with the improvement in the programme and the skill level of the athletes in only one year. The head coaches in each market commented on the talent they saw.
The Turks and Caicos Islands:
NBA Sr. Director of Basketball Operations International, Troy Justice, said; “We’ve seen significant improvement in the programme from last year to this year – not only in the numbers, but in the talent across the islands so far. What I really found impressive was the daily improvement over the three days which means the kids were eager to learn, grasped the information and executed as practiced.”
“I love the growth in numbers and hope to make next year even bigger. It’s about growing the game and having fun doing it – it’s been a blast so far and I hope it continues,” he added.
Barbados:
Head Coach of the Rio Grande Valley Vipers (Houston Rockets D-League team), Matt Brase, said; “For me, it’s all about coming to the islands and imparting knowledge so, when we leave, the athletes and coaches can teach their peers. We do drills to work on the fundamentals and test them in all areas of the game like rebounding, spotting up, boxing out, transitioning from offence to defence. Most importantly, the kids had fun doing it.”
Now in their second year, the Digicel NBA Jumpstart Basketball Clinics train more than 400 of the top male and female talents across the Caribbean. The top seven players from each market will be selected to attend the Elite Camp in the British Virgin Islands in October.
