Basseterre, St. Kitts, February 29, 2015 (RSCNPF): Deputy Commissioner of Police and Head of the Nevis Division Hilroy Brandy and the officers assigned to Nevis Division joined Reverend Telford Matthew and the congregation of Charlestown Methodist Church on Sunday (February 28) for Sunday worship.
“A sizeable group of officers represented our four stations”, said Inspector Conrad Bertie. “We thought that we should take a moment as a collective body to reflect on the grace and mercy that has been afforded to us. Police work is inherently dangerous, and we felt that we should seek God’s continuous blessings. So we came as a unit.” He added, “the service also provided an opportunity for our officers to engage the community. It was a wonderful service, and we express of gratitude for the warm welcome we were afforded by the congregation.”
“It was a great pleasure to have the officers of the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force worship with us,” said Reverend Matthew. He added, “and to have the Deputy Commissioner Hilroy Brandy share some of the way forward with the congregation was appreciated, we pledge our support to the efforts of the Police.”
Several of the officers commented that they enjoyed the service and the opportunity to interact with the members of the church body. One officer noted that he felt welcomed, “because many of the persons in the church were from the families he interacted with in the past weeks while engaged in ‘Operation Meet and Greet’, the community walk through.”
Other officers said, “it was nice hearing the expressions of encouragement and for our work……it gave me a boost.”
Inspector Bertie also extended an invitation to Rev. Matthew to join the officers on a community walk through and he accepted.
The officers ended Sunday in fellowship with lunch at the Oualie Beach Hotel.
