Team Underdogs Wins 2nd Annual Cycling Competition

On Sunday 28th November, the SKN Moves – Nevis Chapter, in association with the National Weight loss Programme, hosted its final sporting event for 2021.

This year, it was a cycling race, in collaboration with the Department of Gender Affairs to mark the end of their International Men’s month of activities.

The department-sponsored t-shirts and medals were provided to each cyclist.

The competition consisted of six (6) teams with each team expected to comprise of three members, but on the day, two teams were short of one member and the two members present were forced to double up on their laps.

The grand prize up for grabs was the majestic trophy, sponsored by Mr. Ricaldo Caines of Caines Law Firm.

Each team had to complete twelve (12) laps in total, finishing a stretch of two (2) miles per cyclist. The route commenced at the TDC parking lot in Charlestown, onto the Samuel Hunkins Drive turning right to head back into town at the junction of the Catholic Church, then riding straight towards the Simeon Daniel Bust and turning back onto the Samuel Hunkins Drive and ending at the TDC Parking Lot.

Finishing in first place, was team 6-otherwise referred to as the UNDERDOGS, LED BY Jeffrey Lewis, who made up quite some slack with an impressive ride, to keep his team at the fore of the race.

In second place was team 3 and in third place was team 2.

Junior Minister of Health and Gender Affairs, Hon Hazel Brandy – Williams, presented each competitor with a medal and certificate. She spoke highly of the Bike Relay event. She also commended the efforts of FIT Wellness center’s collaboration with SKN Moves Nevis Chapter.

Ms. Latoya Jeffers, Assistant Secretary in the Ministry of Health and Gender Affairs, had the final words, highlighting the success of the event and thanked the persons responsible for hosting the Bike relay event.
