The Month of May Is Community Development Month

Charlestown-Nevis–Today, May 1st marks the beginning of a very significant month for the Department of Community Development on the island of Nevis.

The Department has designated the month as Community Development Month and according to the Director of the Department, Mrs. Janet Meloney, the overall aim will be for the department and its staff to have a closer bond with the members of the community and the members of the community will in turn be educated as regards the many uses of the community centers throughout the island and also learn about the diverse programs that are hosted by the department for their benefit.

The month of activities will be held under the theme: ‘Our community; our commitment; our concern.’
Recently, the Community Development Officers and Center Managers made a media presentation indicating the various activities that will take place throughout the island, on different set dates.

The general public is cordially invited to be a part of the month of activities and to visit the community centers on the scheduled dates so that they can be educated and entertained in the process.

The schedule of events includes the following:

May 01, 2015- Proclamation/ Launch of Community Development Month. This will be done in an address by Minister Hazel Brandy-Williams
May 04 – 20, 2015- commences the open days at Community Centres across the island (individual listings below)
May 05, 2015- Round Table Discussion on Let’s Talk – Von Radio
Topic: Is Volunteerism a Thing of the Past?

May 08, 2015- Community Outreach Day

May 17, 2015- Male and Female Cricket Competition at Elquemedo Willett Park at 1:oo p.m.

May 23, 2015- Jumble Sale 8:00 a.m. at the Department of Community Development-This will include the sale of brand new items and some slightly used items in good condition at extremely cheap rates

May 30, 2015- Variety Concert, 7:30 p.m. at Nevis Cultural Complex
