HAVANA, Cuba, Mar 22 2016 – Global money transfer company Western Union has announced plans to extend its money transfer services to Cuba.
The move will allow persons worldwide to send remittances into Cuba within minutes.
It comes a week after the US government relaxed some trade policies that will allow financial institutions to do more business with Cuba and will also allow some categories of Cuban nationals to earn money in the US without defecting.
In a statement, Western union said it expects to activate money transfer services in Cuba by end of the second quarter of 2016.
The company says once services are activated in Cuba, receivers will be able to pick-up their funds from more than 490 agent locations across each of Cuba’s 16 provinces.
