I’m proud to share that Juliette Jeffers’ short film Pan Gyul was officially selected in the Best Short – Jury Selection category at the Pan African Film & Arts Festival (PAFF) in Los Angeles. Out of 1,500 film submissions, only 150 were chosen for screening — and Pan Gyul was one of them.
While we didn’t take home the award, being selected among such powerful global storytelling was truly an honour. Even more exciting, Pan Gyul had two screenings, both of which received an incredible audience response. Viewers were deeply engaged and asked thoughtful questions about Nevis and what it was like filming there. It was wonderful to see such curiosity and appreciation for the island and its cinematic potential.
I’m especially grateful for the opportunity to connect with and experience the work of so many talented Caribbean filmmakers and actors.
Beyond the screenings, Juliette, Winston Crooke, Nevis’ local talent director, and I attended several insightful industry panels featuring executives and creatives from Lifetime, Tubi, and other leading platforms. The discussions offered practical knowledge on distribution strategies, audience engagement, navigating today’s rapidly evolving entertainment landscape, and the ever-present topic of AI. I walked away with valuable industry insights, meaningful new connections, and a renewed sense of inspiration.
Special thanks to Ester Louvena for arranging the diaspora meet-and-greet with some of her close associates. Strong, industry-driven relationships are forming across this vibrant screen community — more to follow.
I look forward to continued conversations and growth. Onward and upward!
