Winfes Celebrates Eight Years

(CHARLESTOWN, NEVIS)- Under the patronage of Mr. William Dore the ‘St. James Winfes Festival’ is scheduled to begin on Thursday June 5, 2014 and would run until Whit Monday, June 9, 2014.

‘St. James Winfes’ now in its eight year and the only parish community festival in Nevis, is gearing up for a bigger, better and sweeter festival according to its organizers.

It was revealed earlier this week that this year’s festival will be celebrated under the theme ‘Participate and Celebrate- Winfes Turns 8’. A number of interesting entrees were submitted for the slogan competition, and the lucky winner was McKeesh Griffin who hails from the parish of St. James.

Winfes which is touted as five days of fun and excitement has a calendar full of activities from Thursday to Monday night.

On the Thursday night, there is the ‘Return of the Candy Shop Lyme’ from 7:00 p.m.

Then on Friday, June 6, 2014, there is the Opening Ceremony from 8:00 p.m. This would be followed by the ‘Culturama 40 Meets Winfes 8’ with The Kore Band, Odisi Band and models at the White Hall Hard Court.

On Saturday, June 7, Oualie Beach comes alive with an Oceanfes, Beachnic, Fashion Show and Drinks Promotion session. Later, all roads lead to Dicks Bar for the ‘Festival Dance’. This bashment will feature Odisi Band and Small Axe Band from 10:00 p.m. until.

Sunday, June 8 drag racing enthusiasts would head to the St. James Raceway for the festival’s annual Drag Race Competition. Afterwards, the ‘After Shock Pre- J’ouvert Bash’ would follow at the White Hall Hard Court.

Then on the final day, Monday, June 9, the early morning ‘J’ouvert Jump Up’ would commence from 5:00 a.m. The Small Axe Band will jam from the White Hall Hard Court to Herbert’s Beach. Thereafter, all activities conclude at Herbert Beach with the ‘St. James Family Fun Day’ from 1:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. The Small Axe Band, Odisi Band, Deejay Bobby and Extasy Sound will be in the house.

Organizers are inviting everyone out to the St. James Parish to participate in the Winfes Festival.

The major sponsors are Carib Breweries, Delta Petroleum and Nevis Housing and Land Develop Corporation.
