The Way I See It

By:Curtis Morton
The way I see it, I think we ought to put an end to all this talk about JUMBI. I really thought that within the modern society in which we exist, that we would have already gotten the rid of all this JUMBI talk.
Now, when I was growing up, there was much talk about JUMBIES and the understanding was that these creatures of the night, mainly sought to do evil to those persons who were yet alive and they were indeed persons who had already died, who were simply just haunting up the place, making all sorts of mischief and literally frightening people to death (no pun intended)
I remember, the admonitions of my grandmother about turning your shirt inside out and walking into the house at night backwards, because apparently, these JUMBIES could not follow you if you walked backwards.
Well I newa!
Well, being me-a non-believer in the fairy tale, I refused to turn my shirt backwards and I refused to walk into the house backwards and those things never did me a thing!
She put it down to the fact that I was born with CAUL, which from her description was a thin layer of skin covering, that totally enwrapped me at birth and they had to cut it off me before I was stifled to death.
Apparently, she saw it as some heavenly protective device but warned the others of my siblings, not to be stubborn like me.
I have heard of persons who walk around in our community with all kinds of objects and symbols (some of them smelling really atrocious), to protect them from these JUMBIES and other evil spirits that people would ‘put on them.’
I told you some time ago, that while I was studying in St. Lucia, many moons ago, one of our fellow students (a young lady), complained of JUMBI troubling her almost every night and pressing her down.
She placed turpentine in every corner of the house—stinking up the place. Carlyse Hobson of blessed memory, took all those vials and flung them far. I advised her to take a bible to bed with her and read it as well and pray to God –and you know, it seems like all the JUMBI dem dead!
So why am I raking up this old story again. It is simply because, just this week I heard a guy on a call in program assert that JUMBIES still exist but they do not come out as often because the place is too lit now.
Well I newa!
And so, seeing that people are still so naïve in 2017, I just want again to refer you, my good readers, to God’s word, the holy bible:
“And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.” Genesis 2:7.
“Then shall the dust return to the earth as it was: and the spirit shall return unto God who gave it.” Ecclesiastes 12:7.

“The body without the spirit [“breath,”) is dead.” James 2:26. “The spirit of God [“the breath which God gave him,”] is in my nostrils.” Job 27:3.
And here is the clincher:
“The living know that they shall die: but the dead know not anything, neither have they any more a reward; for the memory of them is forgotten. Also their love, and their hatred, and their envy, is now perished; neither have they any more a portion forever in anything that is done under the sun.” “There is no work, nor device, nor knowledge, nor wisdom, in the grave, whither thou goest.” Ecclesiastes 9:5, 6, 10.
So my good folks, God says that the dead know absolutely nothing and therefore can neither harm nor help us.
Of course there is an evil one who is truly powerful and he has one third of God’s original angels to help him do harm to us. I speak of the DEVIL or SATAN.
He is a great duplicator and so can give the impression that your loved one is around, by the accustomed scent of a perfume or something like that.
We can’t fight with him and so when we sense that he is around, or one of his imps, trying to harm us, we need to pray earnestly to our bigger brother, Jesus. He will fight all of the wars for us and the Devil will flee.
Find comfort in this verse of scripture:
James 4:7
Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you
And so my dear readers, let us finish away with all this old talk about JUMBIES and stop wasting your money on so called OBEAH men and women.
Trust God and it will be well with your soul.
That’s the way I see it. How do you see it?
