The Alexandra Hospital is now being prepared for an EC$20 million renovation that will began in a short period of time.

Nevispages was informed on Friday, April 21, 2017 that the first phase of the two phase upgrade will include the demolition of the operating theater. This past week the operating theater was relocated from its old location, to the Urology Centre just feet away. Due to the move, the theater was shut down for a little over 24 hours but has reopened in the new temporary location.

Also relocated has been the Pediatric Ward, which has been moved to part of the Private Ward.

The Surgical Ward and the Medical Ward are now fully air conditioned to remove the risk of dust during the demolition and construction of the new wing.

When the new wing is completed, it will be a steel frame two story building and the new home of the operating theater, physiotherapy, the dialysis unit and radiology.

Two local contractors have been hired to complete the building which is said to be completed in just about 18 months.

The cost ECD $20 million however, has been allocated for just the structure and not equipment.

Hon. Mark Brantley, Minister in charge of Health has thanked the SIDF and its Board of Directors for providing ECD$9 million to the Nevis Island Administration to assist with the hospital project.
