Charlestown-Nevis-The general public on Nevis is advised that hot on the heels of the recent amnesty week that was afforded by the Nevis Solid Waste Management Authority (NSWMA), another amnesty week is being offered, early in the month of April.
Previously, Manager at the NSWMA, Mr. Andrew Hendrickson had indicated that the next amnesty week would be offered in the month of July, to coincide with the upcoming Culturama activities.
However, after the recent official launch of the Mosquito eradication campaign championed by the Health Promotion Unit, during which Hendricksson highlighted the preventive work being undertaken by his organization, the next amnesty week was fast forwarded to early in April.
As a matter of fact, the week will commence on Monday 4th April and conclude on Monday 11th April. During this period, interested persons will be able to take ‘white goods’ that is, large items that are not generally collected during the routine pick up by the trucks.
Persons are allowed to take such items to the Sanitary Landfill and not be charged during the amnesty period.
According to a release from the NSWMA, this amnesty period will also serve as support for clean up activities planned by the Ministry of Tourism for the month of April.
Meanwhile, the NSWMA has announced that its main office localted at Ramsbury and the Sanitary landfill located at long Point, will be closed on Friday March 25th and Monday March 28th, to accommodate the two public holidays.
However, the general public is kindly asked to note that collection of regular household garbage, will be done on both days.
The Sanitary Landfill will be reopend on Saturday 26th March from 8am to 12:00 noon.
The NSMA appologiozes for any inconvenience caused and craves the cooperation of the genral public as it enedeavours to keep Nevis clean and healthy
