Cricket : West Indies Academy Put Guyana Under Pressure in Playoff Encounter

ST. JOHN’S, ANTIGUA — The West Indies Academy produced a remarkable batting performance on the opening day of their playoff encounter against the Guyana Harpy Eagles in the regional four-day competition.

Although the Guyanese team has already secured a place in the grand final, they entered the match expecting a strong showing against the youthful Academy side. However, by the close of play on Sunday, May 10, it was the Academy team that had seized the momentum with an impressive total of 423 for 6.

Rivaldo Clarke

Leading the charge was Academy captain Rivaldo Clarke, who remained unbeaten on 165, while Amari Goodridge provided outstanding support with an unbeaten 109. The pair shared a commanding, unbroken partnership of 254 runs, placing significant pressure on the Guyanese bowling attack.

For Guyana, experienced bowlers Veerasammy Permaul and Richie Looknauth each claimed three wickets.

Meanwhile, in the other playoff match to determine the second finalist, Trinidad and Tobago Red Force ended day one on 298 for 7 against Barbados Pride at the Coolidge Cricket Ground.

Cephas Cooper led the Trinidad and Tobago innings with a well-played 93, while Joshua Da Silva remained unbeaten on 65 at stumps. Barbados bowlers Layne and Springer each picked up two wickets.

The playoff matches continue as teams battle for places in the regional four-day championship final.
