BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS, SEPTEMBER 12TH 2013 (CUOPM) – A general surgeon, a sports medicine specialist, an architecture, a mechanical engineer and five nurses, were among the Cuban-university trained nationals of St. Kitts and Nevis, who recently graduated with masters or bachelor degrees.
During the 9th Annual Cuban Graduation Ceremony organised by the Cuban Alumni Association, at the former Girl’s High School, eight of the ten persons received certificates after successfully completing degrees at several Cuban universities.
Dr. Joylette Woodley-Fassala graduated with a Master’s degree in General Surgery; Rodrique James, Bachelor’s in Architecture; Isaiah Newman, Bachelor’s in Mechanical Engineering; Nicole Browne, Jennifer James, Daval Clarke, Leslie Anthony and Micheline Phillip, Bachelor’s in Science (Nursing); Hance Richards, Masters in Sports Medicine, Physical Therapy and Rehabiliation and Chevaughn Whitaker, medicine

The ceremony was chaired by Dr. Garfield Alexander, who delivered the opening remarks after the singing of the National Anthems of the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis and the Republic of Cuba.
Archdeacon Hodge gave the invocation, the President’s Report was given by Dr. Dale Crawford and brief remarks were delivered by the Resident Ambassador of the Republic of Cuba to St. Kitts and Nevis, His Excellency Hugo Ruiz Cabrera.
The Feature address was given by the Hon. Robelto Hector, Elected Representative in the Nevis Island Assembly.
Jorge Duran gave a special selection on the trumpet; Eric Browne recited a poem, Michelene Phillip paid tribute to Cuba, while Roy Isaac and his colleague played the drummers and Nadine and Morvette sang.
Minister of Health, the Hon. Marcella Liburd, Minister of Education, Sen. the Hon. Nigel Carty and Ambassador Cabrera presented the certificates.
The graduation of the 10 nationals brings to 93 the number of nationals who have graduated from Cuban universities. There are 36 nationals studying in Cuba.
Ms. Louwana Dorset and Mr. Jonathan Carty of St. Kitts and Ms. Kentisha Daley of Nevis will pursue training in medicine.
Assistant Human Resource Manager, Ms. Jamilah Adams said a total of 93 Kittitians and Nevisians have graduated from Cuban universities.
