CHARLESTOWN, NEVIS — The Nevis Disaster Management Department (NDMD) delivered a comprehensive presentation on disaster preparedness, mitigation, and community resilience yesterday, Tuesday, July 14, 2026, during a regional conference hosted by the Eden Brown Church of God.
The session was specifically requested by Pastor Neslie Wright of Jamaica, who noted that the church has previously sought similar briefings from the Caribbean Disaster Emergency Management Agency (CDEMA) Coordinating Unit. This request underscores the growing recognition of faith-based organisations as vital partners in advancing disaster awareness and safety across communities.
Churches serve as trusted anchors in society, playing a critical role throughout the entire disaster cycle. Their work includes educating congregations and the wider public, providing support to vulnerable individuals, and strengthening local networks before, during, and after emergencies. By promoting practical preparedness steps, encouraging volunteerism, and fostering a culture of readiness, these institutions help ensure families and communities are better able to withstand, respond to, and recover from natural and man‑made hazards.
The NDMD commends the Eden Brown Church of God and its leadership for taking proactive steps to protect their members and community.
