As anticipation builds for the start of the 2026 Runako Morton/TDC Primary Schools Cricket Tournament, the Elizabeth Pemberton Primary School (EPPS) and the Joycelyn Liburd Primary School (JLPS) served up an exciting encounter in the third and decisive match of their three-game practice series on Friday, June 12.
With the series level at one match apiece, both teams entered the contest determined to claim bragging rights ahead of the highly anticipated tournament.
Batting first, EPPS posted a competitive total of 77 runs from their allotted 12 overs, setting JLPS a target of 78 for victory.
In reply, JLPS got off to an impressive start and looked well on course to chase down the target. However, after the loss of their opening wicket, the innings gradually lost momentum as the EPPS bowlers tightened their grip on the game.
The match went down to the wire, with JLPS needing eight runs from the final over. The tension mounted even further as the equation narrowed to three runs required from the final ball.
In a dramatic finish, a run-out on the last delivery sealed a thrilling two-run victory for EPPS, with JLPS finishing agonisingly short on 75 runs.
The closely contested series and the exciting finale provided an excellent preview of the quality of cricket fans can expect when the 2026 Runako Morton/TDC Primary Schools Cricket Tournament gets underway.
Both teams displayed commendable skill, determination, and sportsmanship, underscoring the bright future of youth cricket in St. Kitts and Nevis.
