CAP CANA, Punta Cana (August 23, 2026) — Guyana defeated Suriname 4–2 on penalties to be named Tier II champions of the 2026 CFU U14 Challenge Series—Boys after the two teams played to a 1–1 draw in regulation time.
Playing at Cap Cana Sports City in Punta Cana, Suriname took the lead in the 17th minute through Valentinho Amaisi, who capitalised on a rebound following a save by Guyana goalkeeper Royston Winter.
Suriname continued to press for a second goal, with captain Vaughn Zeegelaar coming close in the 24th minute when his well-struck free kick was saved by Winter. Moments later, the Guyanese goalkeeper was called into action again, producing another important save to deny Amaisi and preserve Suriname’s 1–0 lead heading into halftime.
Guyana found the equaliser in the 46th minute when Dane Vancooten showcased his skill, evading two defenders before firing past Suriname goalkeeper Jehundi Finisie.
Vancooten nearly completed the comeback three minutes later, but Finisie produced a crucial save to keep the scores level.
Suriname responded in the 55th minute through Dencio Pikientio, whose powerful long-range effort was stopped by Winter. The Guyanese goalkeeper was called upon again just a minute later, making an outstanding save to deny Alexander Alberga from close range.
Suriname had another golden opportunity in stoppage time when Kejan Densi headed towards goal, only to see his effort crash against the crossbar.
With neither side able to find a winning goal, the match ended 1–1 after full time and was decided by a penalty shootout.
Guyana held their nerve from the spot, converting their opportunities to secure a 4–2 shootout victory and claim the Tier II title at the 2026 CFU Boys’ Under-14 Challenge Series.
Winter, who delivered a series of crucial saves throughout the match, was named Most Valuable Player of the match and the overall Best Goalkeeper.
Suriname’s Alexander Alberga finished as the tournament’s leading goalscorer with eight goals and took home the Golden Boot award.
