Ryan Hinds Cleared of Sexual Assault Charge

WIPA Press Release

BRIDGETOWN, Barbados: At a hearing on the 17th February 2014, Chief Magistrate Pamela Beckles dismissed sexual assault charges against Mr. Ryan Hinds after the complainant in the matter informed the court that she would not be presenting evidence. Mr. Hinds, who was represented by Queens Counsel Patterson Cheltenham, was not present at the hearing.

The charges stemmed from an incident involving a then 28 year old woman on 19th February 2012. Mr. Hinds had maintained his innocence from the outset.

“The dropping of these charges is an immense weight off my shoulders” said Hinds, after learning of the outcome. “I need to thank God for this blessing and for the immense support of my family, Mr. Cheltenham my attorney, and Mr. Winston Stafford at the BCA. There were days when I thought there was no end in sight for this matter but they kept me grounded and focused throughout. I am now very keen to try and regain a place in the Barbados national team,” said Hinds. “I know that I still have a lot to contribute.”

Speaking on the matter, WIPA President & CEO, Wavell Hinds commented: “Both the West Indies Cricket Board and the BCA have been notified of the result of Monday’s hearing, and WIPA wishes Ryan every success as he seeks to rebuild his first-class and international careers. He has demonstrated before that he has the ability to bounce back from adversity, and we have no doubt that he will do so again,” said Hinds.

Ryan Hinds is currently playing for the Wings Cricket Club under owner Neeraj Ramamoorthy in Dubai.
