Special Education Teachers Participate in UNESCO Media and Information Literacy Training

A group of special education teachers gathered at the St. Kitts Cooperative Credit Union’s Conference Room on Thursday to participate in a one-day UNESCO Media and Information Literacy (MIL) Training for Educators.

The training, which was conducted in a hybrid format, was hosted by the Government of Antigua and Barbuda and brought together educators from St. Kitts and Nevis as well as Grenada. The initiative forms part of ongoing efforts to equip teachers with the knowledge and skills needed to navigate an increasingly digital and information-driven educational landscape.

The session focused on enhancing educators’ professional development through the application of Media and Information Literacy principles. Participants were introduced to strategies for critically assessing, evaluating, and utilising information and media resources to improve teaching practices and student outcomes.

A major component of the training highlighted the use of Google Classroom as a tool for promoting inclusivity within the classroom. Educators explored ways in which the platform can be used to create more engaging and accessible learning experiences, enrich the teaching and learning environment, and facilitate effective remote and blended learning.

Organizers emphasized that strengthening teachers’ competencies in media and information literacy is essential to preparing students for success in the digital age, while ensuring that classrooms remain inclusive, innovative, and responsive to the evolving needs of learners.
