BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS — The tragic death of Jermaine “Chubby” Clarke early on Easter Sunday morning continues to evoke tributes from across the nation.

The St. Christopher Air and Sea Ports Authority said Clarke’s presence and contributions extended throughout communities in Saint Kitts and Nevis.

“Mr Clarke was widely recognised for his connection to culture and entertainment, and for his support of youth engagement through music and community initiatives. His influence reached beyond the stage, leaving a meaningful impression on those who experienced his work and spirit.

“SCASPA takes this moment to reflect on his life and the impact he had in bringing people together through his presence and work,” the authority said.

Deejay Smudge Entertainment also paid tribute, stating that “April 5, 2026 will forever be remembered as a sad day for the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis. This loss has touched us all, near and far, directly and indirectly.

“Your iconic voice, unmatched energy, and vibrant presence will be deeply missed, but your legacy will live on through the music we have all grown to love so dearly. The entertainment industry has truly lost an outstanding soul. Our prayers are with your family, friends, and loved ones during this time of mourning.”

Shipping company ShipItForLess said Clarke’s “iconic voice, unmatched energy, and vibrant presence will be deeply missed, but your legacy will live on through the music we have all grown to love so dearly. The entertainment industry has truly lost an outstanding and talented soul — a father, youth ambassador, and a legend.”

The People’s Action Movement noted that Clarke’s life and talent “left a lasting imprint on the cultural landscape of St. Kitts and Nevis.

“As a key force behind Kollision Band International, Chubby brought unmatched energy and vision to the carnival scene. His work helped elevate the sound, spirit, and standard of local music, creating moments that will live on in the hearts of many.”

In his tribute, Carlton I. James said: “There was never a dull moment when you were around, and that’s what makes this loss feel so heavy. You weren’t just a friend; you were a brother in spirit, someone whose vibe brought people together. Though you’re gone from our sight, your memories will forever live in our hearts. Rest easy, my brother. Your legacy of joy and love will never fade.”

St. Kitts Nevis Riddim said Clarke was “more than a performer. He was a son of the soil whose voice, presence, and energy became part of the sound and spirit of our nation.

“Through music, he helped shape moments of joy, celebration, and togetherness for countless people. He contributed to the cultural life of St. Kitts and Nevis in a way that reached beyond the stage. His talent represented the creativity, vibrancy, and potential of our people, and that is a national contribution that must be recognised and respected.

“This is not only a loss for his family, his children, his loved ones, and his band family. It is a loss for the country. St. Kitts and Nevis has lost one of its gifted young cultural voices, and that reality is heartbreaking. We cannot continue to see our young men, especially those with so much to offer, fall victim to violence and senseless cruelty.”

The St. Kitts Band Association said Clarke was a gifted and driven artiste whose death has cast a deep shadow over the entire music community.

“As a proud member of Kollision Band and the St. Kitts Band Association, Chubby’s energy, talent, and spirit enriched every space he entered. His absence will be profoundly felt by all of us who had the privilege of knowing him and sharing in his musical journey.

“In this moment of grief, the members of the St. Kitts Band Association extend our deepest and most heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, and loyal fans. We mourn alongside you.”

The association also condemned the violence that claimed Clarke’s life.

“Our Federation has lost not only a remarkable singer and musician, but a vibrant soul taken far too soon through the tragedy of gun violence. We stand united in condemning this senseless act. To those who may feel drawn toward violence, we urge you to pause and choose another way — a path of peace, compassion, forgiveness, and love.

“Violence leaves no true victors; it ripples outward, bringing anguish, loss, and lasting pain to families, communities, and our nation as a whole.”

The association said it remains committed to fostering a safer and more supportive environment for musicians and creatives and called on citizens and residents to actively promote peace and stand against violence in all its forms.

Meanwhile, the Nevis Culturama Committee also reflected on Clarke’s contributions to the nation’s music and culture.

“Jermaine ‘Chubby’ Clarke was a driving force behind Kollision Band International. His passion, energy, and commitment to music helped shape the band into one of the standout forces in St. Kitts and Nevis’ carnival scene.

“Beyond his musical impact, Chubby was a dedicated father, son, and friend who gave wholeheartedly to his community and culture. His legacy will live on through the music, the memories, and the joy he brought to so many.”

In expressing sympathy to the family, many also called on the public “to surround Chubby’s family and close friends with love, strength, and support during this time of profound loss.”
