Alphur Jeffers Passes — A Tribute by Curtis Morton

In every sphere of life, some individuals make significant contributions to community development yet never receive the recognition or accolades afforded to others. In my view, Alphur Sybil Jeffers was one such person.

Alphur Jeffers

From the time we became acquainted, I knew her as a resident of Bath Village, and I assumed it was her place of origin. However, I later learned that she was originally from Fountain Village.

I became especially familiar with Ms Jeffers during her tenure as caretaker of the Grell Hull-Stevens Netball Complex. She carried out her duties with a level of fervour and passion that should be emulated.

She was a no-nonsense individual. No one gained access to the facility without proper authorisation. She ensured that the complex was well-maintained and did not hesitate to correct anyone who acted inappropriately. As custodian of the keys, she treated the responsibility as a sacred trust.

The complex was never quite the same after her departure.

Even after suffering what I later learned was a stroke, Ms. Jeffers maintained a keen interest in sports. She would often meet me on the street and encourage me to continue recording sporting events, noting how much she enjoyed watching them from home.

I salute her contributions to community service and trust that, before her passing, she found peace and fulfillment.

Her legacy of dedication and discipline will not be forgotten.
