Dame Marcella Joins Customs Officers at Church Service to Mark International Customs Day

BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS — Governor-General of St. Kitts and Nevis, Her Excellency Dame Marcella Liburd, joined officers of the St. Kitts and Nevis Customs & Excise Department at a special church service on Sunday in observance of International Customs Day.

Dame Marcella worshipped with Customs officers at the Zion Moravian Church on Sunday, January 25, ahead of International Customs Day, which is officially observed on Monday, January 26. Reflecting on the service, Her Excellency shared on social media, “The staff was well represented, and we all left blessed and inspired.

She also expressed her sincere appreciation to the members of the Zion Moravian Church congregation and **Reverend Onita Samuel-Warner for the warm welcome and the powerful message delivered during the service.

International Customs Day is commemorated annually on January 26 to mark the inaugural session of the World Customs Organisation (WCO), which was held on that date in 1953. The observance highlights the vital role customs administrations play in facilitating international trade, safeguarding borders, and ensuring the smooth movement of goods.

The theme for International Customs Day 2026 is Customs Protecting Society through Vigilance and Commitment.
